Years ago, I remembered La Fille de Berlin as a dark spicy rose. Now, with more experience and possibly a different formulation, I’m finding it a lot lighter and plainer. It’s a fruity-jammy damascena rose, to be sure, very red, but also very simple. The only note besides pure, minimalist rose is a slight greenish astringency. If anything the minimalism is a little harsh, almost metallic, in the way that happens when the balance of aromachemicals is off and reveals sharp edges that never appear in a real flower.
